I get that, but still very odd.. Usually extreme dryness this time of the year is preceded by a dry Summer.. CHA at least had normal precip June-Aug.

The Mississippi River is going to hit yet another record low this week of about -3feet.  2 weeks ago it broke last years record low.

Edit- the updated forecast is showing -2 feet now.

USACE has their work cut out for them to keep the river navigable south of St. Louis and also keep the salt wedge from from impacting the New Orleans metro area too much. Barges of water and water processing equipment are being moved in to place now. The Belle Chase intake will be under threat by the second week of October. The wedge is moving upstream about 1.5 miles/day.

This is quickly turning into a disgusting 10-14 day stretch of heat.  One nice thing is the lows are nice at night.  That said, I would rather endure this heat now because things always balance out.  I would bet good money when things flip they flip to colder than normal.

Nah, we are NW TN we always score winter weather no matter what.

I think this winter could go either way. I definitely wouldn’t write it off.

That Aleutian Island high pressure is a monster in models. 

Until that is gone we are going to torch baby torch.  Very much a 2007/2018 pattern.

The El-Nino years that have had this similar issue with the Aleutian Island High-Pressure System or (+WPO) are typically nationwide torches.

With 2015-16 and 2018-19 (and the warm neutral of 2019-20) all being classic examples. I believe that 1991-92 had this issue as well.

I was looking at James Spann's page this AM. There is concern of a flash drought for our region: Middle TN and most of AL due to above normal temps and little rain expected for the near future. Looks somewhat like 2019 without the record heat, but some temperatures near 90 are not out of the question.

According to WunderMap reporting stations, some parts of Murfreesboro picked up over four inches of rain in the past hour.  That may be overdone, but I am at MTSU and can vouch for minor flooding on campus.

We also had a lightning strike on campus and experienced a wet microburst, while my home rain gauge ten miles away caught some mummified beetles and an IOU.
