I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple of weak tornadoes in the Cumberland Gap region this afternoon and evening. The environment could support a couple of discrete cells in the afternoon. A raggedy QLCS will likely follow in the evening with the main threat being strong winds.

This has been a perfect spring for growing grass.  We had to have our entire yard redone and it has been fantastic.  I hope it can get a good foothold before the dry sets in.

My bermuda has been slow to wake up this year. It's about 70% greened up now. I think the cool, dry weather made it slow. All the fescue lawns around do look fantastic though.

The National Weather Service in Nashville has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for... Central Putnam County in middle Tennessee...

* Until 900 PM CDT.

* At 703 PM CDT, emergency management reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain and flash flooding in Algood and Cookeville. Radar estimates between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen in the past few hours. Heavy rain will fall for another 1 to 2 hours and flash flooding is expected to continue.

  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Emergency management reported.

  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Cookeville and Algood.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 40 between mile markers 275 and 295.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Cold air damming is keeping the Piedmont nice and chilly.

Chattanooga's warmest temp so far in 2023 is 89. It's looking like a good chance we won't see a 90 degree day for the rest of this month either. Love me some weather like this. I feel like this fits a Summer time El Nino pattern, but I don't know enough to really say for sure.

Seems we are about to start heating up in the next few weeks and of course everything seems boring as can be weather wise. Hopefully we can get some decent MCS to provide something before hurricane season. I know this is probably a lot of peoples favorite times for pool and outdoors but not me.. So far its not been to bad in May but the models have me worried about June.
