Memphis looks to be going to a second record high today around 100 set in 2010. (It tied 98 yesterday also from 2010.)Perhaps tomorrow as well before the cool off. The heat of this week is remarkable to Sept 2010 in so many ways. It ended up +4 above normal although so far this year we are only +2. SST are really close to each other.

How did fall and winter play out back then? October 2010 was normal statewide and had several frosts and the first freeze around Halloween. November 2010 was slightly above normal with more freezes. Dec 2010/ Jan2011/Feb 2011 were all well below normal. Winter flipped back to Spring in Mid Feb.

KMEM at 99. Almost certain to hit 100 and possibly go higher.

2007 and 2010 are the years that quickly come to mind with this pattern.  Not quite as sustained as 2016, 2018, or 2019 were but when we do heat up we heat up.

It would not shock me a bit if areas like the Dakota/Nebraska/Iowa/and adjacent parts of Minnesota have a record hot October.

I did a long run at 5 PM in Knoxville yesterday. While it was definitely hot (92 when I started), the humidity really isn't bad at all. I've been more miserable on humid August mornings with temps in the low 80's.
Winter 2009-10 Snowfall: 11.5 in. :)
Winter 2010-11 Snowfall: 15.5 in. :)
Winter 2011-12: Trace
Winter 2012-2013: 0.25 in.
Winter 2013-14: 10.6 (9.5 on 2/12)
Winter 2014-2015: 10.25 in.
Winters 2015-2019: basically nothing
Winter 2019-2020:
2/8/20: 4.25

The cold front looks to be on the move with temperatures in the mid 50’s in NW Kansas and many locations over 100 in SE Kansas.

Heck of a  ::blowtorch:: down there. I'm watching y'all torch from afar as Upstate NY is within a slight risk from the SPC, which is rare for this area. My shot-in-the-dark prediction at the end of August that the western half of TN wouldn't be finished with 100s yet verified. The Plains ridge has been so hard to erase.

Enjoy the cooldown! First snow is tap for the highest elevations in the Adirondacks on Thursday night going into Friday morning.

This weekend looks to be as close to perfect as you can get for late September. We'll be at an outdoor event for most of the day with sunny weather in the upper 70s. The mornings will be chilly enough to let us know that fall is really here. It's a wonderful time of year when we get to have a season like this rather than going from summer straight to winter.

I call a true classic fall day with highs upper 60s low in lower 40s.  The mid 80 least look be coming back end next week

That's a classic late fall day, as in November. Fall is a gradual transition. There's early fall, mid-fall, and late fall, with a big difference in weather from start to finish. No one should be expecting weather that cool this early (and, I don't want anything quite that cool just yet anyway). Starting to see more 70s and 50s (with some intermittent rises back into the 80s before the next fronts) is par for the course for late September/early October. This week was indeed hot/broke some records... but, at least we are cooling off today with more fall-like weather with some nicer 70s and 50s again as we move forward. Warming trends after cool-offs are to be expected before the next cool shots.

It will be a good while before we get to 60s and 40s. I personally enjoy the journey on the way there.

seems like the rides just get little more bumpier they used take place . Back In mid late 70s mid September you pretty much
Had wear jacket at night to go to local hs football game or the fair . Not anymore

1974-1976 were all anomalously cool early autumns. But all the other years in the '70s were almost identical to the weather we've had thus far this September. Data doesn't lie.
Welcome to Tennessee, patron state of shootin' stuff.
