Some of the short range models, HRRR and maybe the 3K NAM, did an excellent job keying on the combo of elevation and potential banding in southern and southwestern middle TN. There was a consistent area from part of Marshall county over to Wayne and Lewis county that was depicted as having significant accumulations. I believe there was another area in part of Williamson county that was similar. Even the normally very reluctant to acknowledge "more south or southwest of Nashville" public forecasters finally acknowledged this at the last minute. Looks to me based on reports, that matches pretty close to the highest reported totals.

you know they never give our elevation any thought at tv stations or nws, they will always stick with along i-40 and the cumberland in initial forecasts , but sometimes being at 1,000 to 1,200 feet can make a difference, happens all the time here in hohenwald, but then in other systems it doesn't LOL

We finished with 7 inches, bringing our January total to 16 inches. I would’ve never dreamed back in December that January would turn out like this.

Combination of several factors. Much of this area is pretty isolated and not overly populated. Distance from radar and just being out in the hinterboonies is understandably going to lead to less attention from the Nashville media.

Interesting to note that a sizable chunk of southern and south western middle TN is roughly the same elevation as Cookeville. Cookeville is only halfway up the Plateau, but some of the on air talent in Nashville would have you believe it's practically in the mountains while having no idea of the elevations down this way.

yeah the way they talk cookville is 3,000 elevation lol...however being in sw middle you do generally get warmer temps by a degree or 2 , BUT a ULL seems to really tap into our elevation from time to time but as you said nws and local mets don't talk about it

This has been a very nice event for the inland Eastern U.S. and Canada. Toronto has recorded one of its biggest snowfall events of all-time! Buffalo, Erie, and Cleveland got rocked. I didn't expect it to come that far west.

We're getting close to 8 inches now, including a half inch of sleet that accumulated after midnight last night. Lake-effect will give us a couple more.

Snow totals from MEG
(Attachment Link)
They show a total in East Shelby not its not on the map.  I can verify that at least a small portion of that area got 3+.  That map has some errors on it.

Put on my big snow boots and
I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the freezing rain

Snow up high
Won't you pour down over me
Yeah, I got some accretion
But I'm as blue as a boy can be

I agree. I think the problem arises from reporting and the timeframe in which the event occurred.
