It has sure been a taste of fall here. An all day light and steady rain and temps in the 60s.

Grace looks to plow into Veracruz probably as a CAT 2 hurricane with an outside case of a CAT 3 if shear cooperates.

Henri's delay in acquiring northward motion now puts Long Island, Rhode Island, and SE MA in play for a CAT 1 landfall.

While we've been looking south there's unusual action headed north. Henri is forecast to strengthen and has triggered hurricane watches in New England. Let's hope things fizzle as it's a rare event up there and could be more problematic than in states more accustomed to tropical systems.

Interestingly warm water in the waters off the coast of New England.

Canadian weather may dictate Henri's path.

Could be Long Island or a little east and direct into Rhode Island. Not a place accustomed to a hurricane or near-hurricane. Storm surge of 3-4 feet, flooding, and lots of power outages. I hope all prepare but especially the vulnerable.

The surge is the main threat here especially for Long Island, Rhode Island, and Eastern MA.

While not to the level of say Sandy or 1938, you couldn't ask for a better angle of approach as far as putting those areas listed above in a surge threat. Something not to be underestimated.

Grace is now a CAT 3.  Thankfully she looks to make landfall in a fairly more rural area mainly impacting small more rural resort towns (that likely evacuated from the storm anyway) instead of a major coastal metro like Tampico or Veracruz the city itself.

Invest 99L will be another one to track over the next several days. There isn't much model agreement, but it looks to develop as it moves into the Gulf with anywhere from LA to Mexico a possible landfall.

Actually there is now good model agreement. We might have a run up the Mississippi River contestant.

Climatologically, we're coming into an infamous time period historically for the Gulf Coast.
