Maybe not officially at BNA, but areas of Nashville were within spitting distance of zero in both 2015 and was it New Year's Eve 2017 or 2018 it got real cold?

It was January 2018. There were two separate Arctic blasts that month. Nashville had multiple nights of single digits for both. Got down as low as 5 twice. My nearest reporting station had 10 nights of single digits lows, reaching 2 or 3 degrees five different nights. I got down to 0 here on the 17th. Even with the cold Nashville only totalled 2.4" of snow.

This was Patriot Lake at Shelby Farms Park inside the Memphis City limits on January 5, 2018- before the double shot of snow and ice the following week. It was actually fairly solid. After the snow the following weeks, temps were down near zero for a couple of nights out here in the sticks. You could walk on our pool.

How much do you all think the low sea ice and slow sea ice growth contributed to the pattern of torching across places like North Dakota and the Great Lakes this winter?

Its been dang cold on the other side of the globe. So it doesnt seem to be a lack of arctic air. We just cant get the Pac to cooperate. Canada was flooded with crap Pac flow this year.

Maybe this Winter finishes cold and stormy similar to Feb/Mar, 2015. Most wrote that Winter off as well until the sleet storm a couple days after Valentines day. It was cold and we had two more rounds of Winter weather into early March that year.

The +EPO is not going to make that happen sadly.  With that being said if we can remove our other sucktastic thing the Central US Ridge then we may can have some battleground threats.  Probably 2008 which was actually a fairly good Mid-Feb to Early March period in West TN and Northwest Middle TN is probably our best-case if the MJO can go through its phases and we can get the EPO to at least chill some.
