I've heard from all of my friends in the LA area and they are good besides a few things getting knocked off the walls. All of them said the same...long and rolling. That's the most destructive quake type. Had this been centered closer to LA, we'd absolutely have a natural disaster in SoCal. I'm a firm believer a major bullet was dodged today.

Only ~ 5 miles deep too, so no wonder LA felt some serious shaking too even though they are 150 miles away from the epicenter.

Another 6.9. Not sure if that counts as an aftershock or not

Mostly being reported as 7.1, but we'll see what they settle on.

We could not feel it in San Francisco, but everyone in LA that I know felt this one and were a little worried.

From seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones:

Quote
So the M6.4 was a foreshock.  This was a M7.1 on the same fault as has been producing the Searles Valley sequence. This is part of the same sequence

Our oldest moved to the L.A. area in February so we flew out to visit on 7/4. She picked us up and 2 hours after touching down, as we were having brunch, we all experienced our first earthquake. Then on 7/5 as we were hanging out at Ballast Point brewery we experienced our second!

Honestly, I don't know if I would have noticed the first if others hadn't pointed it out. The second one lasted much longer! And in both cases we were in the Long Beach area.
