Winter Adventure Page (2018 -19 )
« on: August 30, 2018, 05:49:03 PM »
Who wants to come on a adventure this Winter? List times available and places you want to go. Odds are we can link up this Winter locally, out East, out West or anywhere its snowing. This year I will be heavy in Tahoe again, spending more time in Utah and Washington. Likely have some early weeks in Summit county as well. Speak up if you want to get your fix this Winter.

You must do unconventional or remote work to be able to do that.  :)

Alright guys , first on the menu is the storm heading for the Colorado high country Sunday evening and into Monday. Recent snows have started laying the base for future storms and several resorts are open and will likely open more terrain next week. So first stop is likely A-Basin. This one is short notice like many will be, but if your free and have a way to travel, meet me there, and ill take you into the mountains.

Some thoughts for anyone who snowcations.

We have our real widespread Western Series of Winter Storms this weekend across the Western USA.  It looks like the Olympics and Cascades will do well and so will parts of the Sierra Nevada as well as UT/ID/WY/and Western CO.

I won't be able to go on my WA trip this winter/early spring (have to wait till 2020) but anyone who is out west especially UT/CO/N NM will have a few chances to snag some good snow through the first week of December.

I do think that as we go further in January and February that the best show may be locally or regionally as of TN/KY up through the Snowshoe WV and up into the Northeastern USA.

El-Nino's do tend to manufacture big-time Colorado Blizzards in March or April.

Heading to Reno tomorrow hopefully , the up to Tahoe or down to Mammoth. Snow totals at Mammoth so far have been over 36" so far with the next storm coming in tomorrow night then another yet coming in Tuesday. After a extremely slow start, let the games begin!

16" on LeConte from the last storm, not too shabby.

To be fair, isn't that technically where you live? You wouldn't have to travel at all if it snowed a lot around there  ::snowman::

This is where I want to go for a winter adventure:

But not much snow there right now.

(Note: camera scrolls around for views of the whole mountain town).

Snowshoe, WV looks to do pretty well tonight.  That area looks to be a very good place to chase some winter storms once we get into our colder Eastern USA pattern.  If I wasn't crazy busy between January and March I would think about hanging out in that area.

Getting stir crazy now. About to plan a quick trip West. Utah is my first guess. Delta flys direct, and the mountains are within a hr drive in any direction. Snowbird, Alta, Solitude , lets do this....

https://www.alta.com/conditions/weather-observations/snowfall-history

Alta, UT was born to get snow.  That is what happens when orographic lift plus lake enhanced moisture come together in the same area.
