1/22/2016 Winter Storm

Well, WTVF in Nashville gave a lackluster forecast. They do expect changeover around 10am-12pm but don't expect difficulties for travel until rush hour. No totals were given. It was definitely conservative. I have a tendency to side with them as well, giving low expectations.

The latest RAP is spitting out insane totals for the Arkansas Delta - upwards of 2 feet. Accumulations practically disappear (1-4") on the East side of the river.

The latest RAP is spitting out insane totals for the Arkansas Delta - upwards of 2 feet. Accumulations practically disappear (1-4") on the East side of the river.

The RAP is notorious for doing this with stronger storms. It was spitting out 18" totals in North Alabama during the miller A last February. Needless to say that didn't verify. I wouldn't put much stock in it.

Refreshing change in how WMC is covering the weather on TV now that Childers is in charge. Their in-house model is showing just 2" but they showed all the other model outputs, as well, to give the potential range.

Dave Brown would have called it a day with the RPM.

Perhaps, but I do recall with the first storm last March - the one that slammed DeSoto Co and left Memphis high and dry, it seemed to handle where the gradients set up fairly well. I don't recall how it did on totals. We got about 5" in Olive Branch and my mother-in-law about 10 miles north saw just a few flakes. What a weird one that was.

Anyway, both the RAP and HRRR appear to be bringing the changeover significantly earlier now - between 2 and 3 am.

My point to click forecast says rain and snow after noon tomorrow and 1-2 inchs of snow and 1-2 inchs tomorrow night. I dont like that I want 5 inchs grrr. Maybe ill get under a good band of snow. Cant wait until this time tomorrow!

So 2-4" is not okay, but 5" is?
