Looking for Employment in Nashville/Knoxville
« on: March 22, 2015, 10:25:35 AM »
Hello all. For those not aware, I will be graduating from U.T. Chattanooga on May 2nd with a B.S. in Geology. I have been in Chattanooga for all of my 30 years. I am badly in need of a re-start and a change of scenery. I'm open to going just about anywhere except the majority of the southeast, basically not south of Chattanooga. If that doesn't work out, moving to Oregon and using my step-dad's connections in the civil engineering world will be the next step...I'd rather not at this time. It's a little too far for me and the weather is BORING(no storms).

If anyone happens to know of any geological/environmental employment opportunities around the Nashville/Knoxville area that I can explore, would you please let me know? Obviously something NOAA-related would be ideal also but I'm pretty sure I'm nowhere near qualified for something like that...maybe in Hydrogeology. Thanks for any help or a point in the right direction!

I'm not aware of specifics since that's not my field but there's lots of everything going on in Oak Ridge connected to all the hard sciences.  You might want to check the govjobs site and see what's listed for the area.  Good luck!

I will keep an eye out for positions open in TDOT. We keep some geologists on staff in both Nashville and Knoxville. I get emails every time there is a job posted. They are actually hiring a lot of recent civil engineering grads at the moment. They may be opening positions in the geotech department as well. A lot of their workforce is nearing retirement age.
