I second the new wx radio. Mine won't pick up in the bedroom - only the kitchen.

It looks like after the storm in perry county gets here that may be it for us in Franklin.

That’s what troubles me. This notion that we have to take sides in this country now, you’re either with us or against us, Republican or Democrat, red state or blue state. No one looks at an issue and struggles over the right position to take anymore. And yet, our ability to reason is what makes us human. Lately, we seem so willing to forfeit that gift of reason in exchange for the good feeling of belonging to a group. We all just take the position of our team.”

I can guarantee you the death toll will go up. There are lots of areas that they haven't even gotten to yet.
Views expressed are my personal views and opinions and should not take the place of official forecasts and warnings issued by the NWS and your local media.

Morbid, I know, but I would love to rent a helicopter and fly the area tomorrow.

Susan WMC TV out of Memphis will have their helicopter up early tomorrow surveying the damage.  Just check back to their website and I'm sure at some point tomorrow they will have a video up of the damage around the Memphis and Jackson Tn area.

Watch ABC news in the AM - they are doing a  story on Union University in Jackson, TN. They contacted me thru my blog, and I put them in touch with a student.

I'm reading other things here and there, and I have a sinking feeling that we've only scratched the surface on how bad this is.

There are apparently a number of missing in addition to the confirmed deaths.

Several deaths are associated with the explosion in Hartsville alone.  And, I just read an opinion that this may have been the effect of a very violent tornado up that way... possibly F5 damage (but, that can only be determined from storm surveys, of course).

There are reports of houses blown away, leaving nothing but concrete slabs.

It's hard to assess what's accurate at this point though.  Hopefully, we'll learn more tomorrow.

Well after being under a tornado warning 5+ times tonight, the worst is over and left a destruction zone in its wake. Massive damage all over the southern part of the county. I have been out helping clear trees and talk with people that have lost everything. Still having a hard time getting to the hardest hit area, Atena and Brushy. A friends called me and told me he was ok but his community of Brushy is leveled almost. VERY VERY scary stuff and very sad also.

I live within 1/2 mile of the Wilson/Trousdale county line where they initially suspected that plane had gone down. The fire looked like a plane crash, but it turned out to be the Columbia Gulf gas main located 10 miles north-northeast of me. I'm pretty sure there was no plane crash. I think whoever called it in mistook the gas main break for a plane crash.
It sure reminded me of a plane crash when I saw the flames lighting up the sky.
