January 22 Wintry Precip Chance
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:21:38 AM »
Since it was mentioned in the "1/19 Snow Showers" discussion we may as well start a new "thread of disappointment." Actually the 1/18 0z Euro also shows it which is encouraging. Euro also shows possble light snow Wednesday morning.

I'm not even going to look at this one. Not until Monday if it's still there. If we can't get snow when we have artic air sitting in our lap, I don't like our chances when we have more borderline temps.

This has been an odd winter, even for La Nina. Last year, we didn't get an accumulating snow (by that, I mean more than an inch) up here on the Plateau until the Feb. 17 clipper that gave us about 4 inches. I didn't think it was possible to be any more snow-starved than that. I can't remember the last time we got this late in the year up here without having more than a dusting of snow (and we've only had 1 of them), and the local schools haven't used a single one of their built-in snow days.

I'm just about ready for spring and crappie fishing and gobbling turkeys. :D

I know what you mean, I've already looked at seed catalogs and thinking about the garden.

I hope we end up needing separate threads for the 22nd and the 24th.  Surely something will pan out.

Last Feb was uber depressing. I've never seen things so suppressed before. And after the steaming hot January, the freezing cold almost no snow feb was just hurtful

As always, there's a very tiny sweet spot between too warm and suppression.

One of these days, it's got to work out.  :-\

Typically the 3rd week in January is among the coldest....

We've been forewarned so many times that alot of us think the forecasting models are no better than "The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf"....when the wolf finally came, not many were paying attention! :)

If only it was closer.  It looks like we may have 2 to 3 systems too work with across the Bluegrass and Voulnteer States.  Not going to go into details but at least 1 of them will probably be there come time whether it produces school that sticks and gets you out of school is a later question.  One system appears in the Jan 21st MLK JR Night into the following morning.  There may be enough moisture maype for something the following tuesday night who knows maype a suprise.  Then of course the jan 23rd-24th unknown event by my understanding and last night's PAH and LMX discussion they mentioned a stalled out front with lows running up it of course theres advantages and disadvantages with that many oppurtinues but maype not enough moisture between all the action.  All of these events appear to be borderline and won't know the results till after the event is over.

It looks to be a fun time for better or for worse.  We could get 2-3 heavy rain events and face flooding.  Get 2 or 3 Winter Shots. Or get a little of each with a little heavy rain and a little winter shot.  Or we can get 1 event and the 2 other two disappear. Who knows

It will be the week of the emotional (model) rollarcoaster.
