Actually, in my experience it seems to happen pretty often.  I moved to southern mid TN 9 years ago from the Nashville area.  There have been events where we got less, but there has been at least 5 or 6 times we have had more than Nashvegas, and I don't think any of them were forcast that way.

I think its due to a couple things:
1.  Perception.  Nashville mets get stuck in rut saying "more north and east" or simply "less snow south of I-40" or "not as much down south"-they say one or more of these EVERY time.

2.  Terrain.   There is lots of high ground and rugged terrain outside of the Nashville Basin in southern middle TN.  There are numerous ridges throughout the area that are between 1000 and 1300 feet in elevation.  That's not as high as the Plateau, but in the same ballpark as Cookeville for comparison.  I don't think this is normally taken into account in the forcasts from the Nashville NWS.

3.  Weather patterns.  In certain events we seem to be closer to the better dynamics when systems pass to our south.   Sometimes there is just more moisture to work with down this way.

Maybe its just all a coincidence as I'm sure we don't average as much snow as north Mid TN, but it sure has happened with some regularity since I've been down this way.

I busted this one I guess. Besides a few frz rn pockets along the Plateau, there was a very quick changeover.

Not a pretty trend for this first system. Looks like our hopes would be pinned on a cold reload and the 2nd GOM low coming on about the 20th. Still too early to call either one considering the models difficulty grasping the pattern change.

I don't think it will be much of an issue.  Most of the roads will be dry before temperatures drop below freezing tonight... though, I suppose there could be some minor patches of ice in places.
