The Cold is Coming
« on: November 01, 2007, 07:17:44 AM »
Hey guys, Snowdog back and reporting for duty.  Looks like we got a decent cold outbreak coming.  00z GFS shows freezing temps almost all the way down to FL. Panhandle.  Euro and other models on board with the cold.  Which will make me forget about the absolutely dreadful hot and dry summer.  Of course this out in "fantasy land" but I think the general idea is right...the cold is coming.

Welcome back Snowdog!!  I'm trying to forget that horrific summer too, WAAAAAAAY too warm for this ol' gray mare's taste!

I'll be ready to peruse those models later....right now, I'm still recovering from Halloween..

Whew!  What a night.... ;D

Yep... I've been lurking in on discussions of this possible cold wave on another forum over the last couple of days.

It looks to be coming in around or shortly after Veterans Day (11/11).

Just to give you an idea... Accuweather is showing 40s for highs and 20s for lows on 11/13-14.  So, that would be our first hard freeze... which will be a little overdue at that point.

It's about that time!

Great... I think I got a bit too acclimated to the warm summer we had. I may need to make plans to move to Miami. LOL.  ;D

Thanks servo, it's great to be back.

Thunder, the first official hard freeze means to me the start of snow season.  Which is good on one hand but bad because it only tortures those who love snow and live in Nashville area.

Ron, my wifes family lives in Tampa and we usually go there for Christmas.  Do you know how much 70 degrees and Sunny sucks on Christmas Day?  I couldnt live in Florida.

Looks like the GFS is trying to bring the cold in a bit quicker as the Euro has shown for a couple of days now.  Either way it is going to feel like late fall/early winter which means we pretty much skipped over early fall.

This morning turned out to be surprisingly cold, with my recorded low of 32.9.  That's inside Davidson County.

No doubt some outlying areas are seeing some upper 20s.

I see that a personal weather station out of Fairview (Williamson County) is reporting in at 27!  :o

The first freeze may have slipped in unnoticed this morning for parts of the area.  I don't believe there were even any freeze warnings issued.

I did notice on the 10 o'clock news last night that Lisa Patton on WKRN was lowering the forecasted lows, as the temperatures were already dropping faster than previously expected at that time.

TS, we wound up around 33.4..but it could've dropped a bit.  I actually WARMED UP the van this morning so the kiddies wouldn't be shiverin' on the ride to school.

Snowdog....I KNOW all too well about those "sunny and 70" Florida Christmases..We lived in South Florida for NINE years...

Something inherently wrong about lights on a Palm Tree, but we had them. :o  I SOOOOOOOO missed the change of seasons when we lived there.

The Lewisburg Coop site has been at or below freezing twice already.  Forcast low for us last night was 40.  Whoops!  I have noticed a couple times in the last few years that the NWS seems to wait until the Nashvegas Heat Island gets a good frost or freeze to issue an advsy.  While most of rural middle TN may have had a frost or freeze weeks earlier.

That's the spirit, dapig!!!  I've been in "talks" with an e-buddy of mine who lives in the Indianapolis area.  He was born in FL and not a fan of cold and snow....I've been in secretive TRADE discussions concerning the weather...

and....

 ::) :-[ >:(

Well, I bet I'm as effective as Congress has been this session!!!

Yeah I had to break out the scraper this morning.  Had a little bit of the frozen stuff on the windshield.  Good stuff.

Snowdog and servo - 70s and Sunny sounds fantastic for Christmas Day. I'm a big fan of the holiday Corona commercials. ;)

Upper 20s are in in the forecast for the Nashville area by Wednesday morning.

The frontal passage is expected tonight, with some showers and thunderstorms possible.

Tomorrow ought to get everyone's attention, with some low and mid 50s for highs!
