  >:(

I just looked out my window at the front yard... at the the new growth on the bushes out front and all the new leaves on my poplar tree... not looking good at all.  :'(

It's droop city.  I expect the dead leaves to be shedding over the next couple of days.  Hope it didn't damage the tree itself.

Yeah, I have a feeling the area is gonna look like we've had an Agent Orange attack.

I helped my parents cover their azaleas and other sensitive plants with frost cloth at their house last night. Even with the cloth, the buds/flowers were damaged. The leaves on their crape myrtles were completely shriveled. Many of trees, even established ones, had leaf damage. Hopefully, we will avoid the teens tonight. Hard to believe that at 1:30 pm in April, the current temperature is 38 degrees!

Oh, the gloom and doom! There was no way that I could cover
everything in my yard! Tonight's lows look to finish everything off.

I did throw a sheet over my azalea bush this afternoon... probably too little too late after last night's freeze.  But, it didn't seem to look particularly wilted.

That tree in my front yard, on the other hand, is downright depressing to look at.  I noticed some maples and other trees in other people's yard that look bad today as well.

Be glad when it warms up and those trees start releafing.  I guess it's a psychological thing as much as anything.  These native trees ought to be able this kind of thing.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
617 AM CDT SUN APR 8 2007

...COLDEST EASTER MORNING EVER IN NASHVILLE...

THE MERCURY DIPPED TO 23 DEGREES IN NASHVILLE AT 605 AM CDT THIS
EASTER MORNING. THIS BREAKS THE OLD DAILY RECORD FOR APRIL 8TH OF
27 DEGREES SET IN 1990 AND TIES THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED
IN THE MONTH OF APRIL SET BACK ON APRIL 7TH 1982.

IT ALSO BREAKS THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED ON EASTER IN
NASHVILLE...SET PREVIOUSLY ON MARCH 24TH 1940. ONE BIG DIFFERENCE
HOWEVER THIS EASTER...AND THE EASTER BACK IN 1940 IS THAT THERE
WAS 4.5 INCHES OF SNOWFALL ON MARCH 24TH IN 1940. THE LARGEST
SNOWFALL EVER TO FALL ON EASTER IN NASHVILLE. ALSO THE HIGH THAT
EASTER WAS ONLY 34 DEGREES. WE EXPECT THE TEMPERATURE TO REBOUND
TO AROUND 50 FOR TODAY`S HIGH IN NASHVILLE.

YESTERDAY`S HIGH WAS ONLY 44 DEGREES IN NASHVILLE. THIS TIED THE
RECORD FOR THE LOWEST DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR APRIL 7TH SET IN
1916.

THE MERCURY COULD FALL EVEN LOWER DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS.

How about that... this made weather history.

I remember my grandmother talking about an Easter when they got a big snow.  Now I know that this must have been Easter of 1940.  Of course, Easter came about 2 weeks earlier that year.  So, that makes this cold snap even more remarkable.

Although a very very slim chance, our extreme southern counties might be able to squeeze out a few flurries.SInce the air is sooooo dry that looks unlikely.I just wanted to make sure I mentioned it so it wont be like our last “flizzard” event.

31.6 here this morning, so only a light freeze.  But, the damage was done this weekend.  Local farmers of strawberries, peaches, and other fruit may have experienced significant crop damage.  I guess I'll uncover the azalea bush this morning (if it even did any good after letting the first night of low 20s to get to it).

Hope that's the last of the freezing temperatures for this season...
