Good snow juju - Feb 1-3??
« on: January 18, 2007, 08:06:27 AM »
We need some good sno juju so I'm probably jinxing us by even posting this. Maybe if I keep it vague and try not to use the sn word we'll get some sn.?.? maybe?

Anyway, Low tracking to our S on GFS ensembles looks to be our best bet for a decent snow in the near future. PLENTY cold on backside of system. But we'll have to see how this evolves.

I'm going to have to see the southeast ridge severely weakened before I think about it sn--ing here.  The GFS does not have a good handle on that yet.  In the words of GW Bush, "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

I bet we get a little snow out of one of the clippers in the next 10 days.  Anybody else with me?  I can remember lots of little 1/2" to 1.5" snows out of clippers.  One thing about clippers or troughs coming from the north/northwest is that they are rarely forcast to give us accums much in advance.  They tend to sneak up on us.

Yes...I can see that Coach B, especially if the cold air stays in place.  We could get snow from sources we normally WOULDN'T...and after all, it snowed in Malibu...so ANYTHING's possible.

Coach B,

I'm with you on the clippers.  I remember several fun scenarios with disturbances diving out of the northern plains that created scattered heavy snow showers/snow squalls for us.

I remember one of those scenarios in the mid 90s when the sun would even come out between snow showers during the day.  It was convective, almost spring-like shower activity, except that it was snow.  I think we got a dusting off and on during the day.  Then, that night, a heavy snow squall came through and dropped two or three inches in my area, in a very short amount of time.

Clippers are like little snacks between meals. I'm seriously hungry for a biggie size MEAL!!!! I want to see a storm, but a snack will tide me over for a bit. ;) :)

BTW, per Bill Hallspeak, we can't use Alberta Clipper and Upper Air Storm interchangably. Just a reminder.

Ron,

I actually remember Bill one time putting a "U" on the map.  :)

Most weather maps have Ls and Hs.  But, on Bill's map, you might find a "U".

Agreed.  I think we all want the biggies.  However, as a teacher with 11 snow days to burn, I will take anything.  :D

Was "U" stand for Upper Air Storm? Or maybe it's shorthand for "and/or". ;)  He said "and/or" all the freakin time. Trying to think of more Bill Hallspeak - lets see - southern and northern tier (counties or states), lower 48, what some more?

"and/or"... I remember that!!!

Or how about this... "a lone shower might pop up over portions of the area"...

That was another Bill Hallism.  :)

Looks like you may want to change the title of this thread to Feb 3.  By the way, there is going to be some serious cold coming down the pipe if the GFS is anywhere close to verifying in the 8-15 day range.  The 384hr 12z GFS looks very promising.  Only 15 more days.  LOL.

yeah doggie

But, yeah, 15 days away.  It can't even get something right 5 days away at this point.

I guess we can keep watching and hoping...  :)
