Models are converging upon accumulating snowfall in the higher elevations of West Virginia this weekend. Temperatures will be +/- 2 degrees Fahrenheit around freezing, so I would guess a 7:1 ratio of snow depth to rainfall is reasonable.

I think this is on schedule for the first West Virginia snowfall; it may be a little early. Snowshoe Mtn. recorded its first snowfall of the season last Saturday.

West Virginia--almost heaven. . .

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong. . .

Hope to live in a place that sees that much snow someday, but yet not in the frozen north.

Snowshoe is probably one of the most interesting climates in the Upland South region.  Its topography and how it maximizes lift makes it the snowiest place in the Upland South and more snowier than a vast majority of the Eastern USA.

With the El-Nino this year I wouldn't be surprised to see Snowshoe beat out many of the Western USA ski resorts this winter.

Growing season coming to an end this weekend for the Smoky Mts and all of western NC. Freeze warnings in place.  A good frost likely even in valley areas with lows barely above freezing.

It's a good place for snow lovers who don't necessarily enjoy bitter cold for long periods like the Great Lakes, New England or upper mid-west experience.

Freeze warning tonight- ironic that summer-like weather persisted so late with a hot September into first part of October. And, here we are getting a freeze earlier than a lot of years.

Need to keep a close eye on major hurricane Willia and see how this might impact our weather next week.

Good frost at my house this morning that should be a big step towards putting everything's growing season to an end.  I put a lot of time into what should be the final trimming and clean-up of the yard and bushes this weekend, as well as some pressure washing to get the outside of the house in good shape before the cooling weather shuts that kind of thing down.  Next weekend I'm hoping to get gutter guards up in advance of the leaves coming down.

East Tennessee's waterways certainly make for interesting morning weather this time of year.  You can go from 0 visibility in dense fog to sunny blue skies in a matter of seconds or vice versa.  Not the best for driving, however.
