Fall 2018 (Epic Winter Prep Thread)
« Reply #75 on: September 14, 2018, 01:36:51 PM »
You all act like fall is supposed to start in September. Please. This is 21st century Tennessee. Summer will hang on until early November, and then winter will start.

You mean the interim transition period between fall and spring will start?

What is this “winter” you speak of? :)

Wait we are taking about “winter stuff”?  I thought this was about the amazing period beforehand where we have comfortable temps and a chill in the air for a month or 2 beforehand.

Just looking at the GEFS temps over the next 16 days- after this weekend temps are seasonable and drop to the low 80’s with lows beginning to fall into the 50’s. That’s about normal to me.
long range. In saying think we going bebabive norm up to December .... before we see some below normal temps for averages... gulf Alaska low seems trying park itself ... which will cause trough set in West for a while.  Just saying
Come on severe wx season...

"Fall," as in leaves falling, has arrived here.  Hickory trees are already dropping them in abundance, and if we have 30+mph winds, there may be some nearly bare trees come Monday.

Highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s all week.  Humid.  Doesn't seem like fall to me.  I checked the normals and we are seemingly in a prolonged +5 to +10 stretch on the highs and even moreso on the lows and dewpoints.

Put on my big snow boots and
I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the freezing rain

Snow up high
Won't you pour down over me
Yeah, I got some accretion
But I'm as blue as a boy can be

Looks like fall.  But, no, doesn't feel like it at all.

Growing up, September was normally the transition month to cooler.  After all, the sun is at the same position and strength as late March.  I used to keep weather records as a kid in the 80's, and there were some years we had highs in the 50's by late September on a rainy day(in eastern KY).  Doesn't happen anymore.
