I know there isn't an official Fall thread yet, but whats the early look from our long range prognosticators?

Many years without a severe season has made Bruce a touch bitter, methinks.  I get that way too when it doesn't snow 3 years in a row.   ;D

So what about hurricane season? Its been pretty dead it seems? We have only had 4 named storms so far.

I was just thinking that myself. Been kinda quiet in the tropics.

Heard a few days ago that the current phase of the MJO isn't good for any Atlantic tropical development, but rather the Pacific.  Major hurricane Hector continues to churn south of Hawaii.

Fall wildfire season won't have much spark if the current wet pattern continues.

Despite the drought in 2016, Tennessee has been fortunate not to have had a long-term or multi-year drought for some time now.  While drought pops up in areas of the state, and we have a dry summer or year from time to time, we usually erase it the following year.  You have to go back to 06-08 for a long lasting dry spell that came to an end in 2009.

The sky out here has been pretty hazy and yellow with the Mendocino Complex Fire about 100 miles north. And yet it's barely gotten above 65 in the city while the rest of California scorched. July was the hottest month EVER for the state.

To add to that Death Valley recorded the hottest month on record for any location on this planet last month.  It made our +1 to +2 above average F July seem pretty tame in comparison.

That's pretty incredible.  Hotter than even the Sahara, when they were setting their own records this summer.

Note:  the above article mentions "global warming."  In no way am I trying to start up that debate.  It's Sunday.  I'm resting.

The sad thing is that it shouldn't be a "debate" in the first place. But people choose to believe whatever they're spoonfed on cable news.
