1400 UTC/z is 8am.  Outside of DST, it's UTC minus 6 hours...inside DST it's UTC minus 5.  That map reflects observed temp conditions at 8am.

And the airport has just bounced from 30 to 32. Iím expecting a quicker warmup over the next hour. The icicles on my porch are still growing at the moment though.

Just in the last 5 minutes everything has started to drip. I suspect we have just barely sneaked above 32.

I just saw a Facebook post that there are 13 cars wrecked/off the road on Dry Gap Pike in Knoxville because of ice.  I suspect we'll see more reports like this as posts catch up with the conditions.

Freezing rain falling at a decent rate at the moment.  Parking lot and sidewalk is a skating rink.  Treated road seems to be ok.  Temp at 30.7 and holding steady for now.

Looked back at my records, and this is the most freezing rain Iíve had since December 2009. Itís actually very difficult for us to get ZR at this end of the valley. Cold high pressure from the north canít ever overcome WAA from the south, so this situation of in place cold air being slowly eroded is pretty much the only scenario that can give us ZR.  Iíve seen some from very strong CAD making its way around the bottom of the apps before as well.

*Almost* a non-event here east of Knoxville; however, in Knoxville itself, and Morristown, it was much worse than where I work in the foothills.  Wrecks were numerous at both locations.  Here, we only rec'd around 0.02" of rain before it dissipated in the dry air.  Right now, were observing drizzle at 32.7.  Sidewalk is still slick, but that's about it.

Temp at 32.2 and radar returns are on the increase again.  As is usually the case, warm air is having trouble getting up into this part of the Great Valley at the surface.  Good thing we haven't had much precipitation up to this point, because it would've all been freezing rain.

I'm just east of Morristown. Wasn't horrible, but some traffic issues. I'm in Kingsport working today and it was basically a non-event here. All rain.

As has been the case all week, models performed poorly with the cold air.  I'm back down to 31.8 now with little hope of getting to the forecast high of 40, unless it occurs before midnight.  If precipitation had been more consistent and heavier, more ice accumulation would've occurred.

I think western areas of Mo'Town and down 11E toward Knoxville faired a little worse.  Precipitation started there the earliest, and was heavier.  However, even in those areas it didn't last long.  It was only an "event" because of it's timing at morning rush hour.

In west Knox the ice stopped accumulating around 11:30 and started melting by one.  The timing of it was bad.  I ended up with 0.2Ē, thanks in part to sleet at the onset.  It stuck to the roads almost immediately.

I had .10" for the whole event--more than I thought.  Roads never got too bad over here, but a light glaze formed on anything untreated.  The trees also had a very light glaze that started to form before the precipitation shut off.

This one overperformed. Hopefully we will be able to make the same conclusion after this weekend's event is over.  ::fingerscrossed::
