Hurricane Jose
« on: September 08, 2017, 09:56:16 PM »
Folks- you know we have another Cat 5 hurricane on our hands. With Irma in the forefront, we didn't even have a thread for Jose.

Get this... the island of St Martin was just hit by a Category 5 hurricane. Well, the island is now under a hurricane warning for a second Category 5 storm just a few days later.

Pretty sure that's never happened before in recorded history.

What evers still standing might not be able to handle another blast at least this ones not going to hit the mainland. but Bermuda might be hit by it later too. This is one crazy year for hurricanes. Its been awhile it seems like the year with sandy or the year with Katrina (i think) was the last time the hurricane season was so active with major hurricanes and landfalls ect.

No, the 11 PM update clearly states almost a 5.

When did the wind parameters change for category status? Wasn't a Cat 5 156+ at one point in time

Here was the update headline that threw me:

...AIR FORCE HURRICANE HUNTERS FIND JOSE EVEN STRONGER... ...ALMOST A CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE...

Worrisome to know this. . .

Quote
Large-scale
models have come in alignment with the trough leaving Jose behind to
meander in weaker mid-level westerly flow through day 5.

I had hoped the trough would carry this one away, but if it's left behind to stew, where will it finally end up?

We have a Disney cruise first week of October, so the Atlantic wave train needs to calm down.

Jose is projected to loop around over the next several days to a possible position just east of the Bahamas by next weekend. We may not be done with him just yet.

Jose is still out there lurking.  06Z GFS loops him back around and almost stalls him near the outer banks of NC around 9/19, then brings him in near Virginia Beach.

Go away, Jose!!
