Winter is coming back...

Old Man Winter is finally over his hangover, it appears.

I don't know exactly when, and I don't know exactly how much, but WINTER WILL BRING ICE as it seems now.  Only 2 of the 12 GFS 18z (I know, it tends to bias toward cold, but it would be interesting to see what the 0z gives) runs are giving this possibility (and that does not include the operational GFS), but I am going to watch this very closely.  It could be snow...it could be freezing rain...or it could be that we have 32.0000000000001° and rain  :DIE: .  SOMETHING looks to be about to happen...and my gut feeling is that it will be more or less a repeat of the 1985 storm.

I will probably change my mind over the next couple of days, but know that I post here only when I think something absolutely astonishing might happen.

How about some dates so we know which weekend you are talking about. Obviously this is for next weekend.

I remember the 1985 storm.  If what you're suggesting comes true, it will truly be a wake-up for a whole generation of young Tennesseans who have never seen a winter like we used to have.

Kailyn and shaq, if I'm not mistaken, that was before your time.  Am I right?   :)

Let's see.  I was about nine years old in January 1985.  I remember getting a 7 or 9 inch snow, followed by days of below zero weather.  Nashville saw its all time record low of -17.  I remember HUGE icecycles hanging off the roof of the house.  Snow was on the ground for a couple of weeks, as I recall.

It was one of the few times in my life when the snow didn't melt before we had more snow and ice.  I think we ended up with layers of ice and snow by the time it was all done.  The ground was frozen by the first of February.  We had to go to school into June because schools were closed for so many days.

Good times.  I may look up some record archives to see what the daily conditions were back then.

Didn't Nashville have its all time record low of -17 during the January 1985 storm? Correct me if I'm wrong.
