Severe Weather Spring 2012
« on: January 26, 2012, 09:55:40 AM »
Okay, I guess I will get a thread started...

Could it be Severe Weather Season will be starting soon for 2012?

Does anyone think the milder winter of this year will have any impacts?

Got to have something to discuss since winter so far has been a bust....

Yeah, I was wondering that myself, thus the thread, I wonder if that is a omen of things to come.

Most of the long-range forecasters I've been reading say they expect the long awaited pattern flip to happen around March, would would then kill the Spring severe season and of course infuriate all the snow lovers at the same time.

Have no clue if that will happen...but seems that been a common theme.

Yup severe lovers and winter lovers need to hope that the models are missing a pattern change in the medium term.

Winter of 59-60 pretty much started mid feb and lasted through the end of march. That's about our only hope for a decent winter or severe season.

No...after last year...I don't think anybody should be complaining if we have a quiet severe weather season.

I could say something about this, but I won't.

We were prepared last year.  The problem wasn't preparation... the problem was our infrastructure around the state was severely damaged by the morning storms, which prevented warnings from getting out in a timely manner.  Ask anyone in the state, and everyone knew how serious of a situation we were in that day.

I know I wouldn't be....  I told Eric before... April 27th was enough severe to last me a good 10 years.

I have that love hate relationship with severe. And for some reason, its just not the same if its not in your backyard.

Personally, I prefer a good derecho/straight line wind event, cause the loss of life is obviously less, but it can still be an intense experience. But for a weather geek, there is certainly a rush knowing a supercell that has/is producing a tornado is coming at you. In some twisted way, I was disappointed that the super tuesday tor that went from fairview to lafayette cycled right over my house in East Nashville. I was in the basement and my ears popped as it passed over. I guess I'm kinda like Jo in Twister in that regard. I want to see it.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love me some severe storms.... It's just that April 27th WAS in my backyard.... so I'm perfectly happy not seeing anything for a while. ;)

I certainly did not mean to start anything with my previous comment. I mainly wanted to get everyone’s thought about the spring.

I really don’t look forward to the possibilities of any severe storms that cause damage in populated areas like last year.  While every year brings a change to learn more, it also brings the fear of more destruction and devastation.

That is why I appreciate the comments of everyone in here. It only helps me learn more and hopefully I can help others with this common interest that we all share.

Let’s  hope this spring is NOT as bad as last.

I have been that way since Super Tuesday '08...horrid night to say the least.
