Earthquakes and Wx
« on: September 27, 2011, 10:28:44 AM »
So earlier today, I posed this question to NWS HUN:

Quote from: Josh R. (me)
Since this looks to be a slow weather day, I have a question for you: Do earthquakes have any effect on the weather? Locally? Globally? If so, what effects does/could it have? Thanks, and rock on, NWS!

Here is their response:

Quote from: US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama
Hey Josh! Interesting question! No, earthquakes themselves do not have any effect on the weather, either locally or globally. Volcanic eruptions DO affect weather patterns, though. Volcanic ash fills the atmosphere and can block sunlight, reducing yearly average temperatures in locations that have eruptions. Since we're experts in what happens above the ground (:-P), check out the USGS website for additional information about earthquakes: www.usgs.gov. Thanks for your question!

Just wanted to share with you all.  Feel free to discuss.
Don't knock the weather. If it didn't change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn't start a conversation.

Volcanism can have huge effects on the weather for sure.

The Year Without a Summer is a prime example of volcanic cooling of the atmosphere for those who are interested.

I do notice that earthquakes seem to happen more during fair weather...
