Tropical Storm Lee

Both gfs and nam are on board for something in this time frame. Interactions with the pattern changing cold front not yet known. Can't imagine it doesn't get caught up in the jet diving south, though models seem to want to keep it right near tx and la

Is it Katia that models are bringing in, or is this a completely different system?

Its the development of a wave that is currently in the carribean.

No way Katia could make it to the gulf by this weekend.

Loop the latest Nam and you can see the development. If its not a hurricane by this weekend, it will certainly be a strong tropical storm, NAM has it heading for a Houston landfall.

I have to say that the timing of this system could not be any better for me!  I checked the wave forecast for the Destin/Panama City Beach area and it shows anywhere from 4 to 8 foot waves over the long weekend.  I am pumped!

I see lots of dry air eating this system alive, it will help to beat it down a little though.

BTW - I noticed checking out this storm this morning... anyone else love the new design and features of the ncep (now mag) model pages?

I like the 3 hour maps and I feel like the loop feature loads more quickly, and in general the model pages are more user friendly.

I would like to see a Gulf system blow up and proceed to dump copious amounts of rain on Tennessee.

I went out on a limb last weekend and planted a couple of acres of winter peas, wheat and ryegrass. I knew it was a gamble with the ground being as dry as it was, but I was afraid to push back my planting any further. If we don't get rain in the next week or so, that's a lot of seed and fertilize wasted...

I don't know about the peas, but I've planted wheat, clover, and rape then not had it rain for nearly a month.  I was sure the turkeys had eaten every last wheat seed.  When the rains finally came we still managed a decent plot.  The worst combo for food plots is dry followed by early cold.

18z gfs is making this into a hurricane, I doubt we see a hurricane out of this, these type of systems rarely amount to anything real strong, due to trough/frontal interactions over the conus.

That most likely spells very hvy rain for the northern gulf coast. Too bad those lines dont end up in Texas.

There appears to be a good shot we get soaked out of it though. I've actually had about 5 inches of rain this month but I know the southern and central Valley haven't had much, if any rain at all.
