At the 5AM obs Memphis was at 37 while Savannah had 18!   :o  The Memphis Heat Island is something.

Plus SE winds kicked in overnight in far west TN bringing in some subtle warming through the delta. The airport always seems to be overly sensitive to the slightest wind shift. MEG is 10 degrees cooler at 27 and its only about 10 miles away. Here comes the warm-up.

Once the wind shifted at both KMEM and Tunica the temp quit dropping. Still crazy that MEG was -10 over KMEM. It's a little ridiculous.

Memphis Intl Airport was the only official reporting station in the state not in the 20's last night, including MEG at 27. In fact, looking at coop sites, the Memphis suburbs were in the mid 20's. The zoo didnt report a temp last night, but it appears that KMEM may be the only site in the entire CWA and certainly the state that hasnt reached freezing.

The temperature wasn't anywhere near that warm at KMEM last night.  I don't how they (and no, I don't even know who "they" would be) are doing it...it's almost like it's someone's job to run out there with a little heater so that it doesn't get too cold.

Looks like typical KMEM antics setting in. +4 at Midnight versus an intra-hour low of 36 about 11:15. With SE wind kicking in a few hours...may be tough for them to make it. Outside the city...already generally freezing or below...most will get a hard freeze even if temps rebound overnight with the south winds.

I have an idea...they water the grounds near the airport.  Well maybe...maybe not...but... having a lot of open vegitation in a small area within a much large urban heat island and...this creates both artifically high dewpoints and temperatures....voila.

I got the idea here:
