White Christmas?
« on: October 07, 2006, 05:20:10 PM »
Ok, I know it's a little early to be talking about a White Christmas, but I thought everyone might want some stats about Christmas in Nashville:

...THE WHITE CHRISTMAS IS HARD TO COME BY IN NASHVILLE...

SINCE RECORDS ON SNOWFALL IN NASHVILLE BEGAN IN 1884, SNOW HAS FALLEN 22 TIMES ON DECEMBER 25TH. HOWEVER, 13 OF THESE 22 OCCASIONS WERE TRACE AMOUNTS, MEANING THAN SNOWFALL AMOUNTING TO 0.1 INCHES OR MORE HAS ONLY OCCURRED ON 9 OF THE PAST 122 CHRISTMASES. THIS GIVES NASHVILLIANS ONLY ABOUT AN 8 PERCENT CHANCE OF MEASURABLE SNOWFALL ON DECEMBER 25TH IN ANY GIVEN YEAR.

THE LAST TIME SNOW WAS MEASURED IN THE CITY ON CHRISTMAS WAS
IN 1992, AND EVEN THEN, JUST 0.3 INCHES OF SNOW FELL. THE GREATEST SNOWFALL EVER MEASURED ON DECEMBER 25TH OCCURRED IN 1969,
WITH 2.7 INCHES.

FOR THE RECORD, THE NORMAL HIGH IN NASHVILLE ON CHRISTMAS DAY IS 47
DEGREES. THE NORMAL LOW IS 30.
Views expressed are my personal views and opinions and should not take the place of official forecasts and warnings issued by the NWS and your local media.

Servocrow, that does not mean that you can start putting up christmas decorations already. I am from the north and We dont put our shed full of stuff up until November 1st.

The tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving, and that's just how it is!  Then, it must come down before New Year's Day, or you have mo' bad luck!

Well, in Memphis a few years ago we had an icestorm hit on Christmas Day. It was pretty for about five minutes, then became a pain when we couldn't travel to the relatives' houses.
