Record cold overnight in parts of TN

Frost advisories out for alot of TN with hard freeze warnings in the mtns. Im sure there has been frosts in the valley locations in may before but I dont ever remember a frost in may do yall?

It's been a while for sure.

Oldtimers call this "blackberry winter."  The blackberries are in bloom.

According to folk wisdom, this should be the last of the "winters" (spring cold snap).  By next week, we're in the mid and upper 80s.  I assume the hot stuff will be here to stay not long after that.

FWIW Mt Leconte had a dusting of snow this morning as temps dropped into the 20's ::cold::

This is not really all that uncommon for here as far as last frost dates go.

There is at least one more named cold snap --- "Cotton Britches Winter."  This one is better known in Kentucky, where its effects are more pronounced.  Explanations for the name vary, but all agree that you can put away wool pants after it has passed.
Hire the left-handed --- its fun to watch them write.

36 with some patchy frost in southern mid TN this morning.

Average last frost in the East TN area is around mid April.

Average last frost dates for the Plateau counties is 5-3 to 5-10. Latest in the state that I can find is Mountain City at 5-22.

That said, we got down to 31.7 this morning. I may have to replant corn which had just popped up.

There was frost on the rooftops and cartops this morning. I think we were in the upper 30's.
Winter 2009-10 Snowfall: 11.5 in. :)
Winter 2010-11 Snowfall: 15.5 in. :)
