How Many More Winter Events Will Tennessee See??
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:52:59 PM »
Its the end of January, which means Winters time is getting shorter. Still plenty of time left, but teleconnections and historic La Nina's say an early end to Winter. The temp change sure has been good to me, as I get to go out and do some walking on trails, go to Panther Creek State Park, and also play some sports with friends. However, we all know that I'm a snow weenie lol  ::snowman::

So I was wondering, how many more snow events do you see us getting by the time Winter turns into Spring? Also, its not in the poll, but do you see an early end to Winter?? Also, any more big dogs for us? Any ice storms?

Thanks for your time, and make sure to vote !  ;D ::bacon:: ::flag::

I don't think it's wise to look at what La Nina winters have historically done right now. This year clearly doesn't fit the norm as history would define it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a flip back to wintry weather in late February for a while before spring sets in for good...however, as long as we have this +AO/+NAO/-PNA combination, which looks to last for at least the first half of February, cold air and frozen precip are gonna be hard to come by.

The pattern has shifted the stormtrack west, that means East TN will be in the warm sector until at least Mid Feb. The Midsouth and lower MS valley can benefit with the west shift of the pattern. Meanwhile I will be taking a break from posting, as my area looks to be warming up.(Trout fishing here I come) But I Will be watching teleconnections from here on out thru the end of winter, looking for the right signals (as crockett alluded to).

I just hope we can get one last hoorah before the severe wx junkies take over the board. :D

Cough cough 'bruce' cough....  :D

I don't go full on into a hole during the severe weather season, as I like to see people's opinions on whats going to happen, but everyone on here can attest to my abscence for a few months last year (April-end of October), as I was just here as a 'guest' during that time span.

I voted 0.  We have been lucky to have the winter we had with a raging Nina.  Winter very well may be done.  Another below normal Dec and Jan that went wasted here in MiddleTN as we are right around average snowfall.  I dont know what it will take to get Nashville above average for a season.  Was below normal last year...I think one of the few spots east of the MS river that was below normal.  I'm a sick weenie.   ::sick::

Don't worry, I am more sick than you... last year, my hometown had 3 20-plus inch snowstorms, and 2 that were back to backs. This year, they had thundersnow and 10 inches during the one that gave me nearly nothing. I had to quit looking at the Weather Channel during that event because I was so dang sick.

lolz :D

In a attempt to prevent mass weenie suicides

Even if you dont get the -NAO AO again (And I think we will) you will always have the chance at a Manitoba Mauler, these clippers can and usually do produce snow accumulations in TN during the month of Febuary.

I went with 1-2.  Still plenty of time left, feb looks to go colder towards the end.  Usually can get a surprise or two before all is said and done.  The Snow Weenie in me wanted to vote for 4-6, but I gave him a slap-up-side the head, and told him to man-up!!!  ;D
