Have been super busy the last 24 hours dealing with leftovers from this event at my house in Sevier Co. It sits at the top of a 2400 ft ridge and was the victim of the nasty mountain wave from Tues night. I lost half the roof and had a collapsed deck. Have never dealt with a disaster before and well..its a good thing we have insurance. Roof repairman estimates winds eaching 100mph to do this kind of damage. Havent really had any time to pay any attention to any systems, but will look later. Never throught this storm would effect me in this way. NWS Morristown has been most helpful in their explanation to me for insurance sakes:http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mrx/?n=mountainwaves

Thanks fellas. So far, insurance has been great to deal with. There was no water damage on the inside for which I am most grateful. I have really dealved into the mountain wave concept today with insurance. It is a most interesting phenomenon that can affect much of the western foothills in Sevier, Cocke, and Greene counties. Here is a pic from a few months ago. While rare, it has happened before and am now afraid will happen again. Can you say increase in premiums??
So Curt, why no camping out for winter wx in the mountains? Looks like a good spot for snow chasing to me.Curt,Glad no one was hurt. Best of luck to you with the repairs and hopefully you can avoid any future damage with mountain waves.
Well rentals are paying the bills all winter, so no camping out I will be there in 2 weeks, though and honestly am praying for a huge warm up so I can bike Tsali Rec Trails in NC and hike LeConte.

If so the renters would probably have never returned.
