Unrelated to weather...but interesting to note: Reports flooding in from the Memphis area of a large...bright...green light streaking across the sky within the past hour. Apparently similar reports all the way to the Gulf Coast. Indications that it may be a meteor but unconfirmed. Didn't see it myself though...

LOL.

Reports from Covington County MS indicate a high level of police and military vehicles responding to a farm in that area. Apparently meteor has landed creating a sizeable crater. All still unconfirmed.

Which branch of the military now does UFO response?  Is it still the Air Force ala the Roswell incident?

LOL...obviously the UFO suspicion is running wild with indications the military is involved in the response.  :D A lot of this I would treat as rumor right now...but as cyclo mentioned a lot of buzz going on...especially twitter.

No joke, I was driving north on Hwy 196 in Piperton between 830 and 845p I saw a bright flash to the NNW. Almost like distant lightning. Only once. Strange.  ::candle::

Well....I didn't necessarily mean the alien type.  FWIW, the military does investigate all cases of unidentified flying objects (of which there are many and the vast majority are unquestionably not of extraterrestrial origin)...and I'm sure I wouldn't find out if there were any otherwise (aside from speculation).

However, if you think about it, UFO response (in the literal sense as opposed to the modern "alien craft" connotation) is a fairly important part of our national defense.

Covington County MS now denying any reports of meteor landing there. Who knows...obviously something (probably a meteor) did streak across...may have landed somewhere...may have burned up too before reaching the surface.

I see what you are talking about but I wouldn't think that would be any meteor...that's a loop over a couple of hours...what unfolded here happened within seconds or minutes at the most.

Reports now from CBS in Little Rock say Meteor hit somewhere in Oklahoma...though no OK media is reporting that so I have no reason to believe a station in Little Rock has better authority of what is going on in OK...doubt that report is accurate either.
