LONDON - Renowned climate scientist predicts a new ice age is on the way!Scientists, climatologists and the mayor of London are all in agreement – the cold snap in Europe is going to get worse, much worse. A new ice age is underway.According to Piers Corbyn, a British scientist who gets the climate right about 85 per cent of the time, were absolutely entering a new ice age. Serious business people – notably in farming – are starting to invest in his forecasts.Corbyn, an astrophysicist, gets it right again and again. In November, Corbyn said it would be the coldest for 100 years. He was correct. He predicted a snowy December for Europe, and he put his own money on a white Christmas for most of the U.S. – something that no one, not even AccuWeather had predicted. How does he do it?He looks at the flow of particles from the Sun, and how they interact with the upper atmosphere, especially air currents such as the jet stream, and he looks at how the Moon and other factors influence those streaming particles. He takes a snapshot of what the Sun is doing at any given moment, and then he looks back at the record to see when it last did something similar. Then he checks what the weather was like on Earth at the time – and he makes a prophecy.Corbyn believes that the last three winters are a harbinger of a mini ice age that could be upon us by 2015, and that it could start to be colder than at any time in the last 500 years. He believes there is also a chance that full-blow ice age is cyclically overdue and might occur by 2020.

Observed Snowfall Christmas Morning 2010Very light snow continued through Christmas Day, and then picked up in intensity Christmas night as the storm system strengthened and moved up the east coast. Northwest winds on the back side of this storm brought Great Lakes moisture southward into the area on Sunday December 26th resulting in widespread snow showers, some moderate to heavy at times. The snow showers tapered off into early Monday morning December 27th, but not before dumping several inches of snow across the area. As can be seen from the following images, the heaviest snowfall fell over the higher terrain along the Virginia border, as is normally the case in northwest flow upslope snow events. This is now the snowiest December on record at the National Weather Service in Jackson, where 18.3" of snow has fallen. Many locations across east Kentucky have already experienced more snow than they would normally get in an entire winter! The National Weather Service in Jackson would like to thank all the storm spotters, amateur radio operators, cooperative weather observers, CoCoRaHS observers, county and state highway garages and emergency managers for their snowfall reports during this winter storm!
The internet is a wonderful place where you can share your thoughts with the rest of the world, and thats exactly what i'm going to do here. Living in the south i've become accustomed to a relatively mild climate, but all that could be coming to an end for the next few decades. Ive become aware of a new trend over the past few winters, and the trend is cold. I dont want this thread to sound like climate change or global warming garbage as that debate has become political and money driven, and I dont want it to sound like alarmist garbage either. Thats not what im trying to do with this thread and the reason why i'm not mentioning the words ice age.I think there is a valid threat to the southeastern US warm climate crop, such as oranges, strawberries, lemons, limes and anything else that depends on a semi tropical climate, which is alot more than you think. (People in Miami dont have standardized heat that they may end up needing ) These trends in Florida are the most eye opening, they have already moved the orange crop south and now that dont look to be far enough south to escape the freezes. Already this year there have been three waves of freezing temps to effect the warm weather crops there, and I dont see this trend stopping anytime soon. When most of us think about really cold periods, we imagine a slow transition into a colder climate on long time scales. Indeed, the studies of the past million years indicate a repeatable cycle of Earth’s climate going from warm periods to glacial conditions or cold periods. But has this already been happening for a while, right underneath our nose's?The signs of an impending cold and snowy cycle are certainly visible.Snow records are going down in history all around us.What about the record cold and snow last winter in the Eastern and southern US?Closer to home this year, and this winter is nowhere close to being over. This is something that I have been noticing and thinking about for the last three years, and it looks to be coming to fruit on, when winter after winter is becoming worse and worse here in the SE. This winter is no different, it is on pace to be worse than the last one. Please feel free to add any supportive, or unsupportive, discussion, and data to this thread.
No, Al Gore is in the Global warming, not cooling , camp.
Al Gore is in the "Climate Change" camp. Opponents call it "Global Warming" so as to make it look foolish when cold events happen.
The climate crisis is, indeed, extremely dangerous. In fact it is a true planetary emergency. Two thousand scientists, in a hundred countries, working for more than twenty years in the most elaborate and well-organized scientific collaboration in the history of humankind, have forged an exceptionally strong consensus that all the nations on Earth must work together to solve the crisis of global warming. The voluminous evidence now strongly suggests that unless we act boldly and quickly to deal with the underlying causes of global warming, our world will undergo a string of terrible catastrophes, including more and stronger storms like Hurricane Katrina, in both the Atlantic and the Pacific.
I can honestly say I've noticed it being colder than normal the past couple/few winters but I havent noticed them being more "snowy" here in Nashville. Although we are off to a good start here in Nashville this year, we'll see how the rest of winter pans out. It is interesting how a lot of the forecasters were writing off this winter (due to a raging La Nina) and looking towards the next one as possibly being a pretty brutal winter. However, so far, it looks like this winter isnt going to act like a typical strong Nina and will be plenty cold itself. It is an interesting topic no doubt. There are plenty of very smart people who think we could be on the verge of a little ace age but there are also very smart people on the other side who disagree. We shall see. I enjoy reading both sides take.
I was hoping nobody would turn this into something political, but I can see that wish is not realistic.WXHD, this is pulled straight from Al's mouth. Its from an Inconvienient truth a book that Al Gore wrote.Thats just one example, is there really any need to debate Al's position on Global Warming??
There is, however, no disagreement on whether or not man can alter our climate, we can.
Thats your opinion and I respect it, however it is not a proven fact nor a majority consensus.
Back on your topic: I have a quick question...what does this mean for our summers? Cooler, wetter, stormier, or pretty much status quo (hot, but sometimes not)? The summer of 2009 was extremely stormy around these parts--one of the wettest in some time, and crushed the drought of 2006-2008 out of existence. But this summer seemed to go back to hot/dry in many areas, except for the extreme flood that hit Nashville. Parts of southeast Tn were very dry, until just recently. I prefer a wetter, cooler summer myself. I enjoy having the windows open at night, and hearing the tree frogs, or the distant rumble of thunder as a storm approaches.
