Ice is great for sledding, not much good for anything else though.  ::popcorn::

I just mostly love how everything looks with a good coating of ice. Its kinda mistical looking. The bad part is power outages and such. I've never seen anything like the jan. 09 storm here in lake county though. we had no power for five days! very  ::cold::

The glass effect of ice is indeed mesmerizing. Nothing is fun about power outages though. When I was younger I could ask for ice, now with a wife and kid I can't  ;)  Plus this is the money season for my business, I don't need to be stranded or without power.

Ice makes some can make some really beautiful pictures, but man let me tell you it's a pain in all other aspects of life. We're better off with out it if you ask me.  ::shaking_finger::

I was talkiing about sn at the end of my last post. What is the threat looking like still? Have not been able to look at models just following the discussion in the other tghread

12/11 12Z GFS still shows a little FZ (maybe 0.1 inch?) while the ECMWF says pretty much all rain.

Umm.. I'm going to have to ask you to leave.   ::cold::  ::bagoverhead::

I hope you know Im joking, of course. We dont need any ice around here... Its not so much a problem with me, as much as all the crazy people driving around me, that have no clue how to react to a skid.

Too bad tone of voice cant be heard in text.  ::doh::

I would hate to be a forecaster trying to predict freezing rain here in the mid-state.  ::bangingheadintowall::  It seems we're always on the fence anyway and add that to trying to predict if shallow arctic air is going to hold or not makes for nightmares forecast wise.  These are the times they earn their pay.

MRX and JKL backed way off on their end of week temps.

My forcast is now freezing rain likely Wednesday night with a low in the 20s. Freezing rain/rain Thursday with a high in the 30s, snow showers Thursday  night and Friday.

After that upslope starts up again with several days of snow showery weather possible.

My  soundings are around -1c to -3c for these frames at the surface. The 800 and 850 are the only layer of the entire column above freezing until between 102 and 108.

This is for my hometown, not BG...

Quote
Wednesday: Freezing rain and sleet likely before 1pm, then rain and sleet likely between 1pm and 4pm, then rain likely after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 60%

Buzz around with our meteorology department is that we need to really watch this event closely here in BG as well. The latest model runs are not good...

12/12 0Z ECMWF brings back a little FZ for Middle TN.

On a side note the ECMWF also shows a major snowstorm for TN on 12/21 associated with a low tracking south of us.

Wow! 12/12 12Z GFS slashes temps (relatively speaking) for Weds. and Thursday. FZ looks more likely based on this GFS run and the latest ECMWF.

So far...for Memphis/W TN...this looks like maybe a brief (1-2hr) period of freezing rain before switching to all rain as the warm front quickly advances. Memphis could start out as rain anyway. Trace amounts of icing. Middle TN looks a little more iffy...could see up to .1" of icing before a switchover as the warm front slows down as it heads east. Still...eventual changeover and overal light QPF amounts together should limit this to a travel issue versus something more serious even there. Of course...still a ways out so changes are possible.
