second half of april more active?
« on: April 10, 2010, 07:50:39 PM »
by the looks of the gfs its looking like finally the ridge will break down. that will allow for more of a southerly storm track. with some fairly impressive surface lows just going to our northwest. and also wih a more amplified looking jet, and with the gulf more wide open and juicy air to boot, we all know what that spells. the weather has been nice but very boring. i say bring it on.  time will tell i guess.

AMEN BROTHER!!!! ::rofl:: ;D The thing is, I don't like the destruction, but I do LOVE the excitement it brings, not only in me, but also in everyone else on here. Just something about seeing excited people, kinda like at Christmas time.

I wish we would continue this "unexciting" weather pattern. Tornados kill people and destroy houses and towns. I pray you don't find this out first hand.

No one is wishing for tornados, or bad storms. But these people love chasing storms just to see the natural unstableness of our nature. :-\
AND A LOT CAN CHANGE BETWEEN NOW AND THEN.

Don't knock the weather. If it didn't change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn't start a conversation.

Ok look as much as i love the fact that you guys are seeing my point that i am not the only one with these feelings. doesnt mean that you guys should make light of someones opposing thoughts with the deja vu comments and what not.

With that said , to the above poster, i recently had a conversation with these guys regarding the exact same sentiments earlier in the week. While i feel your pain obviously more than most here, i too atleast understand the notion of being excited about the weather. There was a huge misconception in the point i was trying to convey to these guys that they mistook as me trying to get them to stop being enthusiastic about bad weather, and that was not the case, i repeat that was NOT the case.I was simply wanting them to think before they spoke, about how they relayed their enthusiasm for some on this board they dont realize is here may take it negativity( me included), with that said if it were to never happen, which i understand would be great for loss of life and property, would be terrible for research and knowledge in making people safer and the better understanding of how nature works.

I believe that severe weather will never simply cease to exist, its not the natural order of things, but however i do believe that most people here with a degree or just as hobby, dont want anyone to be hurt or loss of there homes, once again that was never my belief. But, as i said i do like the fact that someone else spoke up so as maybe just maybe some guys here will think atleast about what i had said, now you guys hopefully understand me a lil better.

Ok, lets not get into the aimless arguments again... I admit, I was one of the people who started it last time, but please, this is going nowhere fast, as evidenced by another poster stating the same thing as Muleyman. There are others like him on here, but they're just too afraid to get arguments going.

I'm not taking up for them, just trying to stop the nonsense that goes along with the fierce storms.

I'm gonna be honest....I missed the last conversation this board had concering the "enthusiasm" for severe weather, but was a part of the first, and I can still see there will be folks taking issue with both sides of the argument.  As you stated, 99.4% of the folks that are members here are here BECAUSE of their love/fascination of severe weather...I'm one of them.  We're not just going to quit "hoping" for severe weather...you can't turn it off like a water faucet.

I will agree, though, that in the past comments have been made in response to posts like yours that have slipped through the cracks, and for that, you have my apologies.  You're right in that there is a line that shouldn't be crossed when talking about severe weather and HOPING for a tornadic outbreak.  Personally, I don't hope for a tornadic outbreak, but if the conditions are right, there's nothing you nor I can do about it, so I'm going to enjoy myself and chase the sucker until it's done.  That's just how I'M wired.... ::shrug::

Everyone who is a member here doesn't hope for the dread and destruction a severe weather event can bring....if they do, they need psychological assistance.  However, those same individuals can't just change their feelings toward the same event, as you cannot change the way you feel about yours.  The only thing we can hope to bring from these conversations is to become more tolerant of other people's feelings/opinions.  This forum is set up to discuss severe weather, and when "business picks up", we can't go walking around on eggshells because feelings might get hurt.

This forum has become a great medium for those searching for information they cannot/will not find from local media outlets.  If the forum population cannot express information/data freely because of a fear of hurting someone's feelings, that seriously hampers whatever service we DO provide.  Rest assured, though, that we will be more conscious of other folks' feelings and try to accomodate them accordingly.

Eric touches some great points in this everlasting discussion.

This facebook note I posted is pretty long, and is in quotes.  This is what I posted when I saw the previous discussions, and I got bored.

Quote
A nice post I have been following over at the Tennessee Weather Forum, and also in other weather forums like Talkweather, and such has brought an interesting question to the surface. How can people be so interested and so pumped up about severe weather which causes billions of dollars of damage, kills (60 a year people with Tornadoes and straight line winds), and over 60 with lightning, not including flash flood death tolls from any flooding threat that may occur during the severe event. It is an interesting question and on this little not thing I will try to give my answer.

First of all it is important to know that within the community of spotters, and chasers, meteorologists and weather lovers, that nobody wants to see total destruction, and or death and injuries. We all love our severe storms, and we love to track them on radar, or chase them in live time, but for people who have any type empathy including the weather people seeing a tornado tear up a town, or a derecho producing 100+MPH winds go though a metropolitan areal makes your heart sink. In matter of fact many chasers will tell you that they like there tornadoes in rural areas with no structures, and people around, and very little chance of any type of damage to occur.

The thrill of severe weather comes not from the destruction of people and places, but from the awe of what can happen when Weather is behaving badly. We as humans are always interested in the unknown, and there is still a lot of an unknown factor in severe weather. We might have 14 minute lead times on tornado warnings, and be able to call a potential High Risk Day out 3 or 4 days in advance, but there is still so much to learn about severe weather. Some severe weather days don't pan out, or you have very early November,6th, 2005 where the activity overachieves. I think it is a God given ability to humans, to be curious about the unknown. This is the same reason several humans are into Space, and Philosophy, and things of that nature. With tornadoes it is the same way, we tend to stare at tornadoes with wonder, and look at videos of past tornado outbreaks, and bring up dates like 3/18/1925, 4/3/1974, 4/2 and 4/7 2006, and 2/5 and 2/6/2008.

It is painful for many people including myself to think back about some of the disasters that occurred on the dates that have been listed above, but it is part of life as we know it. We have to go though the tornadoes, and the severe weather days to learn about it, and help prepare for it so that less life will be lost, less injury occurs, and less property will need to be destroyed. We have to in any tragedy not just weather related. have to pick up the pieces, pray, and hope for a better day.

The sad part of tornadoes isn't going to stop me from tracking storms, or hopefully one day chasing them. Instead it will help me realize that in life everything can change in a blink of an eye. Just like on Super Tuesday Outbreak of 2008 when it was 76 degrees in February, and we were hanging out in the classroom that afternoon wondering about how beautiful it was. Than at the end of the following night learning that it can all change.

The main idea isn't just all about my idea on-severe weather, but it is important that you live life to the fullest, enjoy the people you care about, and have fun in doing whatever it is that you do; because tomorrow is not promised
