Being as i am a Tennessee transplant most of my experiences came from central arkansas.  One that is most talked about happend when i was 4 (which means i don't recall it) in December 1983.

From Dec 19 - Dec 31

AVG High -  22
AVG Low - 9

This was the year the Arkansas River froze over @ Little Rock.  There was also a few inches of snow that fell along with an ice storm thrown in.

Here are my top 3 Snow Events.
If you are a "baby boomer" you might remember this one, it is actually my absolute favorite of all witnessed snow events to date.  I attribute this as the wx event that started my love and thurst for all things weather.
#1
Jan. 24, 1963- Waverly sees its temperature drop by 80 degrees with the passage of the strongest cold front in mid state history. Five inches of snow accompany the dramatic change in temperature. The Duck River freezes solid from bank to bank for the first time since 1898. Harbors along the Tennessee River also freeze. It is considered the worst winter weather since the 1951 ice storm.
My Sister watched as some of her friends actually walked and skated on the TN River @ New Johnsonville.  But the coolest thing was they actually took pix of a VW Bug out on the ice in the middle of where the river channel should be.  Maybe one of these days I can get a copy and post it here.
You can find the complete details here:   http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ohx/?n=calendar

March 8-9 2008,  In less than 24 hours there was a total of 11" of snow with up to 3 ft. snowdrifts! It was incredible!

Haaa, I was born in 83, so I missed or cannot remember the couple good snows in the 80's....I missed the storm here in 02.... So I do not have a  favorite storm here, spent too much time in mountains during the winter (1995-2005). When I get over 6" of snow here, I'll be a happy man. I am sure I would have loved the January 02 event here in Nashville. Bellevue had I think 7" of snow or so....Maybe this year well hit it , I'll take chance after chance instead of a borning, not active winter.

Favorite- I was just old enough (eight) to both appreciate and comprehend the rarity of the 93 storm. 3 weeks out of school thanks to gatlinburg being in our district and the town was completely shut down, 26 inches imby. I remember watching my neighbor's carport collapse under the weight of that heavy wet snow. I live on the side of a pretty steep hill, so when it fell it came sliding (dang fast i might add) right at our front door. I knew right then and there that the storm was something i may never see again. it was also the first and last time i saw thundersnow. :'(

Least favorite- the massive bust we had last year. not real sure on the specifics, but it was either the feb 1-2 or feb 9th. i remember there were warnings going up all over the state to expect large (its tn. large is just 6+") accumulations and lots of ice on roadways blah blah. all it did was rain all day with temps above freezing. made me sick as i was really hoping to get a day off from the worst job id ever had. we had worked 3 weeks straight on 12 hour shifts making up for the lost production due to earlier snows. but the 12s were normal. it was supposed to be a 2 on 3 off 3 on 2 off deal, but that was a pipe dream. oh well haha walked out a week later with one finger high in the air when i got the call from my current job saying i was hired.
