Once every three or four years....
« on: December 07, 2009, 09:58:55 AM »
We live in the South and climo suggests that we just don't get regular widespread storms.  But if we could get a forecast like the following to pan out every couple of years it sure would relieve a lot of the  ::bangingheadintowall:: that goes on in the midsouth.  :)

I feel like places as far south as Louisville and St. Louis are in a completely different climate for snow compared to us.

I got some family up around the Wisconsin Dells area. They are expecting a Foot or little more of snow. That is mind blowing to me!! Talks of 12+in of snow in the forecast and their all acting like we would if flurries were in the forecast. I cant wrap my simple little mind around what it would be like to watch like two feet of snow fall in a days time.

We got about 11 with that system. I remember here it had been changed from a mix to all sleet for about 10 minutes and we had thunder sleet It was one of the craziest things that I have ever seen in my life it was sleeting so hard it sounded like my roof was fixing to fall in on my house. Then it changed to snow and it piled up FAST! That is one storm I will never forget.

Yeah here In Bellevue I could drive to the cutoff line pretty easily. I measure near 5" near temple hills off Sneed. But morning comes and it all melts. Im ready for a day of snow then a couple days of cold to make it last. Then I will have my fix and can continue on sane. ::coffee::

Part of my point was not the cold or total snow they are forecast to have, but rather the width of the system.  Look at the swath of watches/warnings.   :o
Yes, we've had some hits in recent years.  However, they have been very localized.  We need a border to border old fashioned midsouth special snowstorm, even if it only gives everybody 4 or 5 inches.  Think late 70s, 85, 88, or 96.

The east side of Nashville is hurtin' in the snowfall department.  I missed out on the event 2 years ago.  I "might" have gotten 3/4 to 1".  :'(  I haven't seen anything to speak of since Jan '03.  Hopefully this will be the year.  I like the look of the pattern for the rest o' the month!   ::guitar::

Davidson County as a whole has really missed out over the years. West and South have done pretty well over the last 5 year. Right now the plains is getting ready to have some healthy snowfall. This December could end up being one of the best in years.

My 2 inches saturday morning was the most snow I've seen on the ground at my house since December 6, 2001 (8 years almost to the day!). I got six inches that night while the airport (only 4 miles away) got nothing at all. The last major snowfall area wide was the blizzard in 1993 (21" and we are still paying for it), and the last major winter event area wide was the 6" sleet storm of 1996. I still feel I am owed some more of the white stuff  ::snowman::

The weirdest thing about it is that before the 1993 blizzard, we got 8-10 inch snows once every couple of years. We had several in the mid 80's and one in my first winter on this earth (1989).
Winter 2009-10 Snowfall: 11.5 in. :)
Winter 2010-11 Snowfall: 15.5 in. :)
Winter 2011-12:
