No more frosts?
« on: April 14, 2009, 05:18:23 PM »
I'm looking to start planting out my garden tomorrow and I want to know some thoughts on if we are in the clear. Typically the last frost is the 15th, but I don't see any chance will see any tomorrow night. . Thoughts?

EDIT: The 21st has me a bit concerned. Looks like a ULL to me. If we clear out I'm sure it will freeze. I hope this doesn't verify.

I'm sure everyone has a different opinion on this, but I have heard that tax day is a good rule of thumb for gardens.  I have had taters, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, peas, radishes and beets out for  several weeks already.  I'm getting ready for the corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, etc, now.  Of course, it needs to dry out a little bit before I do any planting.  I'm hoping to do some gardening on Thursday.

I`m Expecting a lo of near 39 ° Tomorrow Morning here.

The Sky is supposed to be Clear by then.  But No Promises.
The Last Freeze and Frost here on record is April 23, 1986.
Today`s Hi here was only 53 °
The Lo so far has been 43 °
I agree with you : I`m  super ready for Spring Weather for at least 6 months.  ::flag::

Got some frost here in the low spots this morning.  Looks like most reporting stations in southern middle TN are in the 32-35 range.  I was a bit warmer at 37 up on my hill.

Froze here this morning, fortunately only briefly.  Made it down to 31.7 just before 6am.

With the 80s coming into the area Friday and the month of May starting next week... hopefully, this was the last of the risk of frost and freeze.

I read 38.1 on my way out the door this morning, but we had just a touch of frost here in spots.

Unless we have a repeat of 2007.  ::fingerscrossed::

Unless we have a repeat of 2007.  ::fingerscrossed::

I believe we're pretty safe from seeing anything like a repeat of the freeze of April 2007.  It was in early April around the 7th when temperatures dropped down into the low 20s for three mornings in a row, and we saw it coming several days in advance.  I feel pretty confident that we're not going to see anything like that at this point.

May 1st is a week from Friday.  And, there certainly aren't any hints of any cold weather in the last week of April... only warm temps.

Also, remember in 2007, March had been so warm that the trees had emerged/foliated prematurely.  Prematurely leafed/blooming trees + extreme cold in early April = disaster.

This year has been just cool enough (though not extremely cold) that the trees actually seem slightly behind schedule... which is a good thing.
