check out this picture:

it was taken across the street from the NWS in paducah after the storm was over. those trees look absolutely tortured.

I think we're in a pattern where winter storms mean business this year, as evidenced by the above historic ice storm.

What that means for the next storms coming down the pipe, I'm not sure.

When we thought the Feb 2008 Ice Storm in NW KY was bad.  This one comes by and blows that one right out of the water.

The Picture Below IS what Jackson, Tn. LOOKED LIKE Back In the 1994 ICE STORM.
I was without Power for 3 1/2 Days.
I`m Reading that Some People In Kentucky will go longer than that without Power.
I Feel for them.
And Yet We May have another round of Winter Precip. Come Monday : 2/2/09.
Some are Saying More than a Foot of SNOW in Part`s of Tn. ::flag::

That picture reminds me of Macon CO last Feb when the tornado went through here.  We were without power for 3 days

I still can't reach my friend in Paducah.  I only have her cell phone number.  I am sure it will be days before I actually get to talk to her.
Just now learning about the weather (other than what I hear on tv)  Please bear with me.

That's what I thought too. I hope we never experience anything like that day ever again...

Ice storm leaves grave situation in Grayson County

LEITCHFIELD, KY (WAVE) - While many of us in Kentuckiana have been hit hard by this winter storm, you may not believe what some Kentuckians are going through. WAVE 3 went to Grayson County where 95% of all residents and business are without power. They are begging for any help they can get. Emergency Management officials say if help doesn't come soon, people's lives will be in extreme danger.

The entire town of Leitchfield is dark. "It's like a war zone," said Randall Smith, Emergency Management director.

Even the Grayson County Emergency Management Center is running on generators. Smith says they are making it, but barely.

"I can't reinforce it enough. We need volunteers to come to Grayson County," said Smith.

Out of the 24,000 residents, 22,800 are still without power three days after the storm hit. There is only one operating gas station. Mike Newton is one of the few volunteers there. Thursday, he spent more than 10 hours helping direct a line of cars in and out of the gas station.

"This is the worst I've ever seen," Newton said about the county's condition.

One family filling their car and several gas cans said they waited nearly three hours. It was either that or drive 30 miles to Elizabethtown or even further to Bowling Green.

Smith says the county's biggest need is for supplies and medical volunteers, like nurses and other medical staff.

"It is getting critical at this point now," said Smith. "It is getting very critical."

Smith told WAVE 3 that although the county has been begging for help, they have yet to see one person from the American Red Cross come to their aid. If some help doesn't come soon, Smith fears the worst.

"I'm totally disappointed in some of the organizations that haven't stepped up and helped us here and we have called numerous times," Smith said. "We will probably have some fatalities from this, because we have people on the lakes that we can't even cut into to go and get."

Smith says there are so many things they are unable to do themselves.

"We need chainsaws. We need manpower. We just need help," said Smith.

Grayson County High School and Clarkson Elementary School are being used as shelters. They too are running on generators. 911 lines are working and Grayson County officials say they can provide transportation to the shelters.

I hate to say this, but when the American Red Cross came here to help after the tornado...they didn't do a good job at all. But I can also say that was a good thing cause it helped us as a community come together and help each other out. Over those 2 weeks that I helped, I talked and helped with people I have never seen before and it was a great feeling. If you have never witnessed or helped out in a situation like that...it is truly a humbling and self-examination time and it just feels down right great!

I could not imagine not having power for a month. Absolutely amazing!

I spent a weekend at Loucon out there.  Will certainly be praying for them.  They are some nice folks.

You do get to see the idea of neighborhood in this event that has been really missed out now a days.

A lot of people from the worst area have came over to Hopkinsville, Bowling Green, Clarksville, Paris, and many areas in TN where the storm didn't quite hit as bad as say all of west ky north of US 68 and all of the Purchase area.
