Wintry Weather, Feb 2-3
« on: January 27, 2009, 04:47:00 PM »
Because some folks are inquiring this in the WINTER STORM (Jan 26-28) thread, I thought it’s time to start up a separate one. Keep in mind that this event is still about a week off and that there is plenty of time to give it attention once the current winter weather threat(Jan 26-28) passes. Here is latest look on the GFS.

Looking good for the highland rim as well  (Sparta).

So far i'm liking the run-to-run consistency in the GFS with this system.  Still a ways to go though.  ::lookaround::

Let's keep our fingers crossed  ::fingerscrossed::

Pretty good agreement between the GFS and Euro on this one. Both models show 2+ inches of snow Monday night. I am fairly excited about this one.

For what it's worth ... in his video blog this morning, James Spann mentions the possibility of a "deep south snowstorm" next Monday. ::wow::

I'm not too familiar with him, and some have said that he hypes the snow too much ... but, given the consistency in the GFS models so far, he may just be onto something. ::fingerscrossed::

Looking forward to the 12z run this morning to see if Monday's system holds together.   ::yum::

Actually, just the opposite is true.

If you have been reading these message boards on a regular basis so far this winter, then you know that everyone usually gripes about how the GFS and EURO usually do NOT agree with each other, not to mention the run-to-run flip-flopping of the GFS.

It's just been in the past week or so that the GFS has been becoming more consistent.

Most here are only discussing model output.  If you want to be disgruntled, be disgruntled at the models or mother nature.  The one on Monday is a better set-up for snow than the current system.  Back-end snows rarely amount to anything more than purtty snow showers.  Of course it will always come down to temps and with a low riding to our south there will usually be some warm air advection to go along with it.  Nothing is a sure thing.

I understand his frustration, having lived here for 31 years.  I will say, it used to snow a whole lot more than it does now, when I was a kid.  We are just going through a pretty bad snow drought.  At least when I was a kid there wasnt all this info at your fingertips.  You would have to watch the 5:00 news and see if the Mets mention any changes.  Then the 10:00 news.
