Retro!  Gotta love it.  8)

I don't remember the early January snow in Nashville (I would have been about nine years old at the time... so, my memory is a little fuzzy).  Memphis must have been slammed by that one, while Nashville didn't see as much.

I sure do remember the big snows and record cold later in the month in Nashville though.  There were LOTS of snow days that year (I was in the fourth grade).

Thanks, that was fun to look at.  ::coffee::

The wind chill factor in Nashville on that last vid on January 17, 1985 was 56 degrees below zero.

 ::wow:: ::wow:: ::wow::

That date still stands as the all time coldest in recorded history in Nashville with a low of -17.

Whew that's a lot of snow man. It's about time we get something like that.

Ah that one phrase made me laugh there.

 ::applause::

Great that you kept up with these videos after all these years.

Shows the youngins what kind of winters we've had in the past.  ;)

I will say this... as bad as I thought it was in Nashville that winter, Memphis got a lot more snow... from every system, it seems.

I recall one six-inch snow in January with other smaller snows, as well as some ice.  Amazing that Memphis got buried by a foot at least twice that winter.  ::wow::

I grew up in West TN and we got buried several times with snow and ice.  My Mom always was concerned about any Texas L pressure system because it always meant snow or ice.   ::snow::
I remember that system. I lived in Dayton and we had thunder snow.

I turned 11 in January and kept a snow diary that year in Nashville.  :)  Even at that young age I was convinced that those weather people out at the airport must not know how to measure snow because we had to have at least a foot.  ;D ;D  I'm pretty sure we had 6-7 inches from the Jan 19-20 storm and closer to 8 or 9 for the Feb 1-2 storm.  I lived in the hills of West Nashville and we always seemed to get more than the airport.

The problem with 85, is that it is the winter all others are measured by for me.  I was to young to remember the late 70s and I was in college for 96.  I've been teaching in a system that has at least 10 built in snow days for 10 years now.  Surely I can get a couple winters like 85 before I retire.  :-\

As requested...bump.  ;D

There are several posts here w/different links...or go to the first and then through Curt's profile on Youtube...that should show them all. He has a couple from 1/88 on there too that aren't linked in this thread...so good reason to go about it that way.  :)

Ahh the memories. I was 15 years old that year. Coldest weather I can ever remember. It was too cold to enjoy the snow. But we made do.

I was spoiled as a child. The late 70's through the mid 80's we took snow for granted. Boy do I miss those winters. We did have some busts, so it was not all fun and games. But man we sure had some good times. I also remember a big snow in 88 I believe. Was like 11 inches in Hermitage. I think the official count was 8 at BNA. That was the last big one I remember till 2003 where we got 8 in Hermitage. And since then...... nada.

The snowshield lives on.

I love the video where Dave Brown says "snow... possibly heavy at times" while reading the graphic, then follows that up with "its gonna be heavy at times"

I remember when it got down to -17 in Nashville that January. The lights where really dim inside the house as every one was using so much electricity to stay warm. It was early in the morning hours. It was COLD even in the house and had to wrap up in blankets. ::cold::
