This incredible stretch can not be understated. Here is a portion of the posting I just made at Talkweather with a few more details included....

We're about to end February among the top 10 coldest in Memphis...as well as much of the Mid-South. This will be coldest February in this region since at least 1978...with only 2 days of the 28 ending above normal! It was actually not truly bitter cold...only one day with highs below freezing...and no nights in the city where temperatures dropped into the teens...but the stretch of cold weather was highly prolonged during this month.

This was in contrast to January...where we had the severe arctic outbreak early in the month....but the middle and latter part of the month was milder...with temperatures near if not a bit above normal for several days in that period...that helped average out the severity of deep cold that month...and kept it from entering top 10 territory.

An even more incredible stat now though courtesy of MEG. Despite periods of milder weather...Memphis has not managed a 70 degree reading since last November 15! This is now a 102-day stretch...and the ninth longest stretch of such on record...with that stretch and place on the list expected to rise further with no 70-degree days in sight yet. The list above in beneficii's provided by MEG...indicates the others in the top 10. Notice every other year in the table...none earlier than 1936!

This has truly been an amazing stretch of cold...or at least "cool" weather...scattered about with several snow and ice days...though there was no one "blockbuster" type system that occurred.

There doesn't appear to be much of a chance in the near - mid term for MEG to hit 70. Looks to be a day or two in the 60s later this week, but then cooling off again. Not sure that record of 140 can be broken, but wouldn't be surprised to see the stretch get to 125 or so.

I'm pretty sure that we've only hit 60 three times here since november. That has to be some kind of record.

With a temperature of 67 in Memphis as of 11 AM...70 degrees seems all but a lock for the city Today...with a forecast high near 75. Once again...this will mark the first 70-degree day since November 15, 2009.

Looking at the data above...it would appear the stretch will have reached 112 days...or the 7th longest stretch on record of temperatures not reaching 70 degrees.

Earlier statements from MEG indicated Memphis ended with the 11th coldest February...and 13th coldest Dec-Jan-Feb period...since records began in 1875. Not incredibly historic on its own...but still the coldest winter since 1977-1978.

Some reporting stations around Nashville are showing 70 and above already.

It's nice out.  Cool
