I'm pleased to announce...
« on: October 04, 2008, 08:43:59 PM »
The FIRST random, out of nowhere, wild, ridiculous, preposterous, neva-gon-happen, GFS prediction of Nashville SNOW in "voodoo land" of this early Fall season.

In this scenario wet snow flurries or sleet pellets could mix in with light rain showers. The surface air temp would be about 45º and I would be starring out the window losing my mind. Of course all of that cold air is aloft and temps would barely support anything frozen. The only thing less likely to happen is Vandy beating Auburn. Oh wait...

The 540 line rears its ugly head!  ::evillaugh::  ::cold::

Actually, it wouldn't be totally unheard of to see flurries flying in Nashville in late October.  I've seen it myself.  One year when I was in high school, I believe, we had a dusting of snow on Halloween morning.

Chelsea

That’s what troubles me. This notion that we have to take sides in this country now, you’re either with us or against us, Republican or Democrat, red state or blue state. No one looks at an issue and struggles over the right position to take anymore. And yet, our ability to reason is what makes us human. Lately, we seem so willing to forfeit that gift of reason in exchange for the good feeling of belonging to a group. We all just take the position of our team.”

WOuldn't that be the same storm that gave me 1 to 2 inches the day before Halloween with up to 4 to 6 inches in parts of KY and IN and OH during the Halloween hoilday that was so bad that Halloween had to be canceled in some areas.  And also one of the earliest snowfalls ever.  I think that was in 93 but i was like 4 years old back than so i dont really remember too well.

Looks like it was 1993 we're remembering.  On Oct 31, 1993, the high was in the 30s, and snow was reported in hourly conditions in Nashville on that date (http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KBNA/1993/10/31/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA.  Highs were in the 60s on that date in 1994, so I don't think any snow fell on that date.

And, Chelsea, I do remember snow falling on Christmas Day in 1993.  I remember that because this was the day I headed out with my family to Colorado for a trip.  I was snowing when we left.  That was during my Freshman year in college.

Incidentally, that was a pretty good winter.  There was a significant winter storm in January 1994, when we dropped below zero in Nashville, with ice and snow.  Then, the big ice storm hit in February 1994.
