Winter's last gasp after Easter?
« on: March 16, 2008, 03:25:58 PM »
3-16 12Z Euro and GFS show a chance of snow Monday 3-24 the day after Easter. Climo says no way and it will probably end up a Midweat storm but interesting none the less. The Euro really dumps on us.

Man... I thought I was done until severe weather starts kicking off big time. *sigh*. There goes my first calm week in a while. Tracking a snowstorm 2 weeks ago, moved this last week. Was planning on relaxing.

If we have a -NAO like we're progged, I think this is a possibility. Plus March favors cutoff lows. Fantasy storms are like crack. You can get through the withdrawals, be totally fine, and it just takes one hit, and you're off the wagon.

I'm totally off the wagon. I hope, if its not going to happen, that it disappears pretty soon.

I'm all about snow, and I don't care what time of year it is.

Actually the 18Z is a step in the right direction for something on the Monday after Easter.

That’s what troubles me. This notion that we have to take sides in this country now, you’re either with us or against us, Republican or Democrat, red state or blue state. No one looks at an issue and struggles over the right position to take anymore. And yet, our ability to reason is what makes us human. Lately, we seem so willing to forfeit that gift of reason in exchange for the good feeling of belonging to a group. We all just take the position of our team.”

Well, it looks like game still on for after Easter, granted it's marginal at best...

3-17 12Z Euro still has something for next Monday. 12Z GFS OP only hints at it although there is more support on the ensemble mean.

kinda off topic (sorry).......... buttttttttttttttttttt........

Here's some information on why Easter is so early this year.

Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on the Roman calendar.

Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) than it will be this year, but that is rare.

This year is the earliest Easter any of us will see for the rest of our lives. And only the most elderly (95 years and above) have ever seen it this early.

And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier.

The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913.

The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now).

The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year.

3-18 12Z Euro looks better than yesterday and if verified would give us a nice snow Sunday night/Monday AM....big if. 12Z GFS has the event suppressed to the south and weaker but still there. Its position on the GFS is probably right where we want at this point in time. If this were January or February everyone would be all over this.
