I guess when it's all said and done, if there's a big event going on...I'm going to try and follow it!   :) I just wish I had more time to research and gain more knowledge on weather in general.

That's what I like about this forum and others that are out there.  Although, I don't spend a huge amount of time doing research, I still have learned tons over the past few years about the weather and what has to happen to get these significant events we follow.

I just never knew & understood how much things had to come together just to get that snowstorm that you took for granted as a kid....... ;)

It is funny noticing who posts on what.  Some people seem to be exclusively winter weather fans and are completely silent on severe weather threads.  ;)

Are you talking about me?  ;D ;D

I'll admit I'm a winter person.  We have built in paid for vacation days that can only be used when it snows.  That's why the teachers are worse than the kids. :)  The current snow drought only makes it worse.  All of those unused vacation days going to waste year after year.  Only in education. ::)

I think I'm probably 50/50...and I don't think it has to do with "LIKING" destructive weather, more so, just being fascinated by nature's uncontrolled fury.  And YES....I've been through a direct hit (April 3, 1974 where our home was spared except for a TON of HAIL damage -- softball to grapefruit size), three people were killed just a mile from my Grandparents' house.  We had to go to school the next day but all we did was sit in our classes listening to the radio broadcast of the aftermath coverage.

In South Florida, I got introduced to hurricanes..lucky me, Andrew was the first.  The last minute southward turn SPARED us again....Most of FL weather is relatively boring, but I can tell you I was a pretty funny sight putting up hurricane shutters and being 8 months pregnant at the time.

Like others, I get disappointed with winter, BUT I LOVE SNOW SO MUCH...just its beauty and serenity....'sigh'...

Anywhoooooo..what were we talking about..... :D

I predict that the next "big event" is a bust, just like all the others have been...

Yeah, I dont want people to think I meant that those who follow severe weather "like" the destruction.

I do have a fascination with Hurricanes however and I have always wanted to ride one out.

I think the fascination with snow is because we rarely get a good snow that it makes it fascinating when we do.  We have always had strong storms...athough it seems lately there are more tornadoes in this general area.

I think for me, the attraction to severe weather and snow is that they are something out of the ordinary.  Takes the ho hum of every day life and spices things up a bit.

I like severe thunderstorms just as much as snow I think. The only think is, I feel a little guilty for loving them because people lose their lives.

I think my favorite storm was the derecho in Memphis in July 2003, which was later dubbed Hurricane Elvis. Luckily, I don't think anyone lost their lives in the storm... and we had 70-90 mph sustained winds with up to 100 mph gusts for 15 minutes in about a 15 mile wide area all the way through shelby county. The widespread destruction was literally unbelievable, it looked as though a minimal hurricane had hit memphis. Here's a link to some storm damage.

And as for snow, I think I love it because its so out of the ordinary here. I love it when I'm in other places (got to experience 3 and a half feet in 2 days in breckenridge in 03, and on the other side of the divide, they got 9 feet locally) but there's definitely more enjoyment in the fact that it so rarely happens. I'm pretty obsessed now cause its been so long since I've got my fix of southern snow.
